As normal with a Building Simlation Conference there will be a full range of Social Events to keep you entertained in the evenings these range from walking tours of the city, food and dancing (pictured ;-) through to sampling our national tipple - whisky!
With the exception of the Parliament and Distillery tours (see below) events are free for delegates. ALL events (including the tours) are free for registered accompanying persons.

Sunday 26th July - Early Registration and Drinks Reception
There will be a drinks reception along with early registration at the Architecture building [map] on Sunday Evening between 18:00 and 20:00. Come along and meet the conference team and your fellow participants!
Monday 27th July - Civic Reception
Our sponsor Glasgow City Council cordially invites you to a formal civic reception and welcome to Glasgow in the magnificent City Chambers [ map ]. This will take place between 18:45 and 20:30
Tuesday 28th July - Whisky Tasting and City Centre Walking Tours
On Tuesday evening between 18:30 and 21:00 we have a selection of events taking place - you can attend one or all of them. From 18:30 there will be walking tours of the city centre, where you can learn more about the people, buildings and history of Glasgow. The tours will meet outside the Lighthouse building [ map ]. Also in the Lighthouse building between 19:00 and 21:00 you can sample a selection of our national drink or alternatively those of a nervous disposition can try wine tasting instead. There will also be tours of the building (with some fantastic views of the city from the [renewable energy-powered] observation gallery).
Wednesday 29th July - Conference Banquet and Ceilidh
Wednesday is the highlight of the conference social calendar - the Conference Banquet! This will take place at the Old Fruitmarket [ map ]. The evening starts at 18:45 with a piper, and drinks reception. The Banquet will begin at 19.30 and will be followed by the conference awards. To round the evening off we have a traditional ceilidh dance (pronounced "kay-lay") which should start around 21:30 - highlights could include members of the IBPSA board attempting to dance! Dr Paul Strachan in a kilt and Prof. Jan Hensen attempting to pronounce "Auchenshuggle"! The whole evening should wind down around 01:00.
Friday 31st July 2009 Glengoyne Whisky Distillery Tour
The Glengoyne Distillery is situated in a wooded valley in the southern Highlands of Scotland close to a small river that flows into the famous Loch Lomond. The distillery, which takes its name from "Glen Guin" or Glen of the Wild Geese, has been producing an exceptional single malt scotch whisky for nearly 200 years.
Participants are welcomed with a “dram” of Glengoyne 10 year old Highland Single Malt Whisky, view a short video presentation and are taken on an informative and entertaining guided distillery tour, ending in our Slainte Mhath Shop. The Distillery Tour will last approximately 45 minutes.
A coach will pick passengers up from the James Weir Building at 10am [ map ]. The estimated journey time is 1 hour each way.
Passengers should arrive back at the Weir Building at approx 13:20. A place on the trip, including transport, will cost £12.50 per head (FREE for registered accompanying persons). Payment can be made at registration.
Friday 31st July 2009 - Technical Tour of the Scottish Parliament Building (Edinburgh)
Delegates will be taken on a ‘behind the scenes’ look at the building’s energy and environmental services describing how the building works environmentally in terms of optimisation of daylight, natural ventilation and the way in which materials were sourced for the building. The tour will take place between 11:00 and 12:30.
A coach will pick passengers up from the James Weir Building at 9.30am [ map ]. The estimated journey time is 1 hour each way.
Passengers should arrive back at the Weir Building at approx 16:00. A place on the trip, including transport, will cost £12.50 per head (FREE for registered accompanying persons). Payment can be made at registration.
